WHERE BUSINESSES GO TO GROW

The Best Times to Review and Tweak your Social Media Strategy

BY Peg McDermott on Oct 01, 2014 / IN Blog, Social Media

social_mediaEven if you are confident in your social media strategy, you should make it a habit to review your approach on a regular basis. By doing so, there is always the chance you will find a tweak that can work in your favor.

Here are three times to review your social media strategy:

1. Beginning of the year. What worked for you and your company last year may not yield the same results in the new year. Why not take this time to review every aspect of your strategy, making sure you are on the right page once the calendar turns?

2. Results are falling off. There is nothing more exciting than a social media strategy that is turning out the results you have been chasing for so long.

Unfortunately, nothing good lasts forever. Things can and will change, meaning that you have to do the same. What will you do if Twitter or Facebook rolls out a change that impacts your business and social strategy? If you are not open to altering your approach, you could find yourself missing out on many opportunities.

3. When the competition has passed you by. Regardless of your industry, there is no denying that many of your competitors are using social media to boost their brand and attract new business.

Is your competition doing something you aren’t? Are you losing ground to your key competitors online? If you answer yes to any of these questions, among others, it is time to figure out why you are falling behind. By examining your competition, it will not be long before you have a solid idea of what you can do to perform at a higher level.

A complete social media audit can take a lot of time, but in the end you know you are putting your company in better position to succeed.

If you are unsure of when you should review and tweak your strategy, consider the three ideas above for getting started. Once you know what you are looking for, how to make changes, and what to expect along the way, it will become easier to roll with the punches with each passing day.

Remember, there is nothing wrong with change. The social media industry is always evolving, and for this reason you need to do the same. You never know when a small change here or there could do big things for your business.
