WHERE BUSINESSES GO TO GROW

Three Twitter Design Changes You Should Know

BY Peg McDermott on Jun 10, 2014 / IN twitter

tuitNo matter if you use Twitter on a daily basis or from time to time, it is important to stay current with any changes made to the design. Recently, the company decided to make a few design changes. While some people have enjoyed the changes to this point, others are complaining. Regardless of what camp you are in, you are forced to adapt if you want to harness the power of this social media giant.

Here are three of the most important changes, as well as some information on what each one means to your business:

1. Popular tweets to receive more emphasis. With the redesigned Twitter in full effect, tweets that receive the greatest engagement (favorites, retweets, and replies) will be highlighted. The reason for this change is simple: to make the most popular content in your timeline easy for others to pick out.

2. More emphasis on shared images and video. Let’s face it: for many, Twitter is more about sharing images and video and less about sharing text based content. Regardless of how many images and videos you upload to your company’s profile, you can be rest assured that these will receive more emphasis.

With this change in mind, it is important that you focus on the quality of the images and videos that you share via Twitter.

3. Highlight a tweet. Did you recently send out a tweet that you consider more important than others? If so, you know that you want this to be available and highlighted for as long as possible. Twitter is letting users pin a tweet to the top of their profile, making it easier for others to check it out for an extended period of time.

Of course, there are rules in place, such as the fact that you can only pin one tweet at a time. For this reason, you need to be careful about which tweet you select for the top spot.

These were not the biggest changes Twitter could have made, however, they are sure to change your approach.

It is important that you stay current with any and all design changes, as this will go a long way in making it easier for you to harness the power of the service.

If you have yet to take notice of the changes detailed above, visit your Twitter page today for a closer look. You may find that one of these adjustments allow you to better communicate with your target audience.
