If you don’t believe in the benefits of social media for your small business, the following seven reasons to get started may change your mind sooner rather than later.

1. Branding. As a small business, there is nothing more important than building your brand. Using social media allows you to expedite this process.

2. Create a buzz about a product or service. Are you trying to spread the word about a particular product or service that your business is now offering? Doing so via social media is a great place to start.

3. Show the industry that you are an expert. In addition to simply posting updates to your social media profiles, take the time to communicate with others. This will help you establish yourself as an expert.

4. Form relationships with others, including potential prospects. The relationships you make via social media could soon turn into new business and added revenue. Does it get any better than that?

5. Level the playing field with larger companies. Since you don’t have the bank account of the major players in your industry, you need to get creative. Using social media will allow you to do just that, without breaking the bank.

6. Reach people all over the globe. There is nothing more exciting than connecting with prospects, clients, and industry connections from all over the globe. Your company may be in the United States but you can use social media to communicate with people on the opposite side of the world.

7. Search engine benefits. Did you know the use of social media can improve your standing in the search engines? If you want to rank higher this is something you need to be doing.
